Tecnologia & Defesa magazine is the oldest and biggest publication about defense, aerospace, military technology and public security sectors edited in Brazil with national circulation and in South American countries, being considered the leading publication in this field in the region.
In March, 2011, the magazine celebrated 28 years of existence. Its position in the market, credibility and range have been determinant to be chosen since 2003 as the official publication of the Latin America Defence & Security – LAAD, organized by the British company Clarion Events.
In 2000, the Commissariat Général des Expositions et Salons du Gicat (COGES), a French governmental entity, included Tecnologia & Defesa in the list of the ten most important defense and aerospace magazines around the world. In 2009, for a special issue for LAAD, T&D became the first Brazilian specialized publication to get an exclusive interview focused on defense matters with the President of Republic, in that occasion, Mr. Luis Inácio Lula da Silva.
Tecnologia & Defesa is published every three months and counts on 12,000-14,000 copies per issue. Around 2,000 copies of each issue are sent free of any cost to the most complete and exclusive mailing list in South America which includes, in Brazil, military officials (generals, brigadiers and admirals) in charge of command, support and technical roles at the three Armed Forces, politicians, journalists, defense and aerospace executives, diplomats, military attachés, ministries, government agencies, research institutes and universities, public security authorities, etc. In a reduced scale, Tecnologia & Defesa is also sent to military officials and police authorities in Argentina, Chile, Peru, Colombia, Ecuador and Venezuela.
Supplements and special editions are eventually edited focusing on specific issues in an average of two or three a year, with the same number of copies and circulation. Thus, considering the supplements and special issues, the periodicity of the Tecnologia & Defesa products is bimonthly.
Tecnologia & Defesa is also present in the internet, with a website (www.tecnodefesa.com.br) updated every day with news articles about the matters in which the magazine is specialized.
In October, 2010, at a Security Conference organized in Sao Paulo, Brazil ("SegBrasil"), it was launched a new special ordinary issue ("Tecnologia & Defesa Segurança") focused on security issues aiming to the growing of these market in Brazil, especially because of big sport international events such as the World Cup and Olympic Games the will be held in the country.
T&D is also the only Brazilian publication that often focuses on space matters, locally and regionally, producing special issues, news article, interviews and analysis about the space activities in Brazil and South America.
The distribution of Tecnologia & Defesa issues is made by Fernando Chinaglia Distribuidora, the leading Brazilian distribution company, and the profile of the readers of the magazine which purchase the magazines in bookstores and newsstands is formed by members of A/B class, (specially businessmen), self-employed workers, graduated public employees, college students, militaries and policemen. These data were obtained through a private research carried out in September, 2007. Public direct sale rate is around 68-75%.
Tecnologia & Defesa's representatives are used to attend the main trade shows in South America and Europe. In 2010, T&D attended the FIDAE (Chile), ILA Berlin (Germany), Eurosatory (France), Euronaval (France) and AAD (South Africa). The team of Tecnologia & Defesa has also assisted important media vehicles like radio and TV channels (Bandeirante and Record) and big newspapers regarding matters related to defense and aerospace.
